Kuortane is located in the very heart of South Ostrobothnia, about half an hour drive from Seinäjoki. Approximately 4000 people live here.

The strong peasant history is still visible in numerous old and traditional houses mixed with the modern ones.

Tar became Finland's primary export item between the 16th and 18th century. For the locals of Kuortane it was an important source of income. Even today it is possible to annually familiarize oneself with the tar production recipe during the traditional Terwaviikko (Tar week) festival.

Architect Alvar Aalto, musician Heikki Klemetti and painter Soile Yli-Mäyry are nation-wide known artists, all hailing from Kuortane. Several national sports legends also come from there.

Welfare and athletics play a huge role in Kuortane. Local Sport Resort is the center of business and tourism offering sporty experiences for both domestic and foreign guests.
