Experience Aalto in Seinäjoki

 Alvar Aalto is Finland’s most notable and internationally renowned architect. He was born in Kuortane in South Ostrobothnia. He designed the administrative and cultural centre of Seinäjoki known as the Aalto Centre.  The parish centre, library and theatre located at the Aalto Centre produces different events like concerts, exhibitions and theatre plays and are in everyday use. Civil Guard and Lotta Svärd museum operates in the South Ostrobothnian Defence Corps building which is also designed by Aalto.

The Aalto Centre has been main tourist attraction in Seinäjoki in recent years. Now the local hotels and restaurants has been inspired by Aalto by creating new products and services within Aalto spirit. Gastronomic delight and à la carte dishes have been developed, and accommodation services combined with guided tours or independent visits to the Aalto Centre.

Aalto's furniture and glass work is internationally recognized as well. The world largest glass collection designed by Aino and Alvar Aalto can be visited at the Aalto library.

By combining individual services, different Aalto experiences can be produced for visitors considering their time and interests. All the sights are located in the centre of Seinäjoki, walking distance from each other.

Hotel-Restaurant Alma is located in the centre of Seinäjoki, next to the railway station. The building's history is extending all the way back to 1909. The building's – Rautatieläisten talo (The house of railroad workers) – history dates back to 1909 and was originally designed as a meeting place for the railroad workers of the area. The building has since been renovated according to the guidelines of the Finnish National board of antiques for its contemporary use.

Uppala fine dining inspired by Alvar Aalto

The former landlord of Uppala Mr Jussi Tala worked as a finance manager at the Seinäjoki parish and got to know Alvar Aalto during the construction of Lakeuden Risti church. Aalto was often invited to the family home Uppala for a dinner or coffee when he was in Seinäjoki.

Uppalan Kartano, The Manor House of Uppala, is offering special menu within Aalto theme. Every dish is created and served with a story linked to Alvar Aalto.
