Seinäjoki - Alvar Aalto and Design (1 day)

One of the most famous Finns in the world is architect Alvar Aalto, who among other things designed Finlandia Hall in Helsinki, the capital of Finland. Alvar Aalto was actually born in Kuortane in South Ostrobothnia. He has designed the Administrative and Cultural Centre of Seinäjoki known as the Aalto Centre. Aalto's clean and timeless form language can be seen both in details and in composition of six buildings. The wide plains of Ostrobothnia as well as the city of Seinäjoki can be observed from the 65 meter high church tower of the Cross of the Plain Church.

Amfora Shop in Seinäjoki has a great variety of Amfora products representing modern Finnish design. Päivi Rintaniemi, the founder and head designer of Amfora has been awarded with esteemed Finnish State Design Prize in 2008. Finnish design and distinctive local handicrafts will pe present also in Kaarakka House, a course centre and handicrafts shop maintained by South Ostrobothnian Arts and Crafts Society. The shop has wide selection of regional arts and crafts.

Lunch will be served with nostalgic atmosphere in Restaurant Alma, former House of Railroad workers in Seinäjoki.

Excursion includes transportation (appr. 35 minutes from Kuortane), guiding in Seinäjoki, lunch and entrance fees.
